So I’m guessing that Microsoft just didn’t think that Scalebound was on par with the other games slated for this year, huh?
I come bearing some bad news, especially for those of you who looked forward to Scalebound releasing on Xbox One and PC this year (I am one of those people…). Microsoft made an official statement yesterday announcing the cancellation of their exclusive title from Platinum Games, Scalebound.
The game was shown off at E3 2016, and didn’t seem to disappoint, though I guess Microsoft felt the need to focus on other more anticipated games. Scalebound was set to release this year, bringing with it Platinum Games’ signature fighting and action style and a whole bunch of dragons. The game was even set to have online co-op.
Microsoft’s official statement is as follows:
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, and other great experiences.”
A lot of people speculated that there was going to be trouble for the title since it was left out of Microsoft’s Xbox Wire blog which recently highlighted all of the games set to release this year.
As of right now there is no word yet on Platinum Games’ plans with the continuation of this title. One can only hope that perhaps Sony or Nintendo will snatch it up and give it a new home (similar to what Nintendo did with Bayonetta).
